Henry Cavill has given an update on the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 franchise.

Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Cavill was asked what his experience with the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 he’s working on for Amazon Studios has been like so far.

“It is the greatest privilege of my professional career to have this opportunity,” Cavill answered. “I can’t say too much, again — it’s early days, still. To have this opportunity to bring it to the screen and be at the tiller, so it can be faithful, is key to me.

“This is the stuff I’ve been dealing with since I was a kid. This is the stuff I spent my free time daydreaming about, as an adult as well. And I get to bring it to life. There’s no greater reason that I enjoyed the industry than doing something like this. I’m very happy to be here.”

What do we know about Amazon and Henry Cavill’s Warhammer 40,000?

In December 2022, it was announced that Cavill is going to star in and executive produce a Warhammer 40,000 universe, based on the popular interactive video game that launched in 1987, for Amazon Studios.

It was initially believed this would be a television series; however, Cavill later referred to the development as a “Warhammer Cinematic Universe,” meaning there may be upcoming film projects that are part of the franchise as well.

“For 30 years I have dreamt of seeing a Warhammer universe in live action,” Cavill previously said in an Instagram post. “Now, after 22 years of experience in this industry, I finally feel that I have the s𝓀𝒾𝓁𝓁 set and experience to guide a Warhammer Cinematic Universe into life. Partnering with Natalie Viscuso at Vertigo has been a blessing beyond words, without her we might not have found the perfect home at Amazon. And having a home like Amazon will give us the freedom to be true to the massive scope of Warhammer. To all of you Warhammer fans out there, I promise to respect this IP that we love. I promise to bring you something familiar. And I endeavour to bring you something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen.”

No filmmakers or showrunners have yet been announced to be attached to any upcoming Warhammer 40,000 projects.
