Saturday’s fight has drawn a 78,000 crowd plus massive global TV interest — and the audience is far from being all blokes
Heavyweight king Anthony Joshua has become the fight-game’s biggest star because he is such a massive hit with women and children.
Champion Joshua defends his WBA Super and IBF titles against Carlos Takam on Saturday in Cardiff, in front of what will be a record 78,000 crowd.
And promoter Eddie Hearn says the 28-year-old Brit is pure box-office.
“He’s Britain’s biggest sports star,” said the Matchroom managing director.
“The international TV rights for this fight are incredible, not just the number of territories, but the money they are paying.
“I can’t believe the diversity of the audience — the queue for his public work-out was40 per cent women.
“Normally, the pay-per-view audience is the lads, and the women are in the other room.
“You get the feeling the women are saying, ‘You got the Joshua fight?’”
