Kirk Cousins has officially thrown his first pass as an Atlanta Falcon.

The Falcons shared a video Thursday of the veteran quarterback throwing to wide receiver Darnell Mooney.

Cousins is in the process of recovering from surgery on his torn right Achilles tendon in November.

The Falcons’ video marks a progression from recordings taken earlier in Cousins’ injury recovery, when the quarterback threw without moving targets:

Cousins suffered the non-contact season-ending injury on October 29 in what ended up being his final game with the Minnesota Vikings.

He then entered free agency after 150 games with the Vikings to sign a four-year, $180 million Falcons in March.

The Falcons sparked questions by following up the Cousins contract a month later with the decision to select quarterback Michael Penix Jr. with the No. 8 pick of the 2024 draft.

General manager Terry Fontenot and coach Raheem Morris have since stated that Cousins remains the team’s starting quarterback, so seeing him able to throw to a moving target is a good sign for Atlanta.

The Falcons are particularly hoping Cousins will connect well with Mooney, a free agency pickup whom Atlanta hopes will be a top target in 2024.
