The Boys Season 4 Trailer Unleashes Shocking Revelations: Butcher’s Last Stand and Homelander’s Dark Influence Turns The Seven into Vengeful Villains!
After nearly two years of anticipation, The Boys’ season 4 official trailer has come, foreshadowing Billy Butcher’s deadly final mission. Prime Video’s adaptation of Garth Ennis’ superhero satire comic novel was renewed for season 4 just a week after season 3 broadcast, with production beginning in early 2023 and the release delayed until the end of the Writers Guild of America strike. The streamer has subsequently published new glimpses at the season to stir up interest, focusing especially on Homelander’s approaching presidential campaign.
The video sees Karl Urban’s Butcher turning to his titular team for help in his “desperate” final mission to bring down Supes as he begins to feel the life-threatening effects of the Temp V compound, utilizing the Supe-đđžđđing virus from Gen V. The trailer also sees Homelander putting together a new Seven team and embarking on a bloody rampage in order to win his Presidential election.
Prime Video has surprise released the official The Boys season 4 trailer, which can be viewed below:
Will The Boys Season 4 End With Butcher’s Death?
“A recent production update for The Boys season 5 could be a promising sign for Urban’s return.”
One of the biggest points of intrigue from The Boys season 4 trailer is the ongoing tease of Butcher’s health problems from his ongoing use of Temp V, with the season 3 finale confirming he would only have 12â18 months to live. Theories have since swirled about how the show would tackle the potential demise of one of its lead characters, with some noting that a closer adherence to the comics could be the answer by having Butcher take the real Compound V and develop regenerative abilities.
Despite some of these concerns, a recent production update for The Boys season 5 could be a promising sign for Urban’s return. While not officially confirmed by Prime Video, a production listing indicated that a fifth season of the show is not only already in development, but began filming on April 8 and will run until August 22. Though the listing didn’t indicate whether Urban would be involved, the fact the show’s future may be set in stone is a promising sign for Butcher to find a way to survive his Temp V health concerns.
Everything Else The Boys Season 4 Trailer Reveals
Another major reveal from The Boys season 4 trailer is the confirmation of just how connected it will be to Gen V as it features the appearances of Asa Germann’s Sam and Maddie Phillips’ Cate. The duo were last seen in the Gen V season 1 finale having led an attack on non-Supe students, with Homelander having stopped Marie from further hurting Cate, while she and Sam went on to be hailed as the “Guardians of Godolkin” by the media. While Butcher’s discovery of the Supe-đđžđđing virus was already confirmed to be carrying over into season 4, this is an interesting first confirmation of characters crossing over from the spinoff.
The Boys season 4 trailer also confirms that Homelander’s guidance for the new and returning members of The Seven will be a much darker one. While he’s generally been lenient towards his cohorts’ unsavory antics, Homelander looks to not only be leaning into them, but even inviting them to go further into becoming full villains by saying they should be gods of “wrath“. This can be seen particularly with The Deep’s brutal murder of an unknown figure with a baseball bat, all of which seems to leave Jessie A-Train in a place of uncertainty about his place on the team.
Interestingly, The Boys season 4 trailer is also missing a few notable characters, while also giving a brief spotlight to others, namely Victoria Neuman, who will be running as Dakota Bob’s Vice President, and Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy, who has yet to be confirmed for the season, but the actor was spotted wearing season 4 crew merchandise, sparking theories of his return. Additionally, while Starlight’s conflicts to gain public favor against Vought look to be a big part of the season, her work with The Boys also seems to point towards some internal team conflicts.
