Feud Rumors Explode: Francia Raisa Finally Clears Up Controversy with Selena Gomez!
Francia Raisa, Selena Gomez’s former BFF, says she has ‘no issue’ with the singer. When asked by TMZ on Thursday, the 35-year-old actress remained tight-lipped on the actual status of her friendship with the 31-year-old singer, although she did clarify that they are not currently feuding. The artist, who previously dismissed inquiries about her prior friendship, and her former best pal have both following each other on Instagram, which could be a sign of reconciliation.
Gomez recently made a shock move by publicly wishing her ex-BFF a happy birthday despite their vicious feud. ‘Happiest of birthdays to these special human beings. No matter where life takes us, I love you. @franciaraisa,’ wrote the Disney Channel alum, 31, on Instagram Wednesday. She included some of her favorite photos with Raisa, including one of the pair posing together at her star-studded 30th birthday party last July.
The pair have had a rocky friendship in the years since Raisa donated a life-saving kidney to Gomez in 2017. Gomez needed a new kidney after suffering organ damage related to her lupus diagnosis. She revealed she had undergone the transplant in a 2017 Instagram post that included a photo of herself and Raisa in the hospital. In the photo, the pair are seen holding hands as they recuperated side-by-side in hospital beds. To honor Raisa’s incredible sacrifice, they each got the surgery date tattooed. A year after the transplant, Gomez was seen partying and consuming alcohol, which allegedly led to Raisa confronting her about her ‘unhealthy choices.’
Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa had a rocky friendship after the kidney donation in 2017. They reconciled in late 2018 but tensions flared when Gomez mentioned Taylor Swift as her ‘only friend in the industry,’ leading Raisa to unfollow her. Gomez snidely responded to the drama on TikTok. Although Gomez appreciated Raisa in her Dear… appearance, she didn’t mention her in her Apple TV+ documentary.
Gomez also recalled how ‘unbelievably overwhelming’ it was that Raisa didn’t even second-guess making the decision. ‘So within three days she went to go do it and she was a match, and it was one of those moments where I felt watched over,’ she said. She said that she ‘will never, ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia.’ In May, Raisa appeared to shade her former BFF by avoiding all questions about her while out in LA. Raisa was asked about the state of her relationship with the Rare Beauty founder and if they are on speaking terms but she refused to share any insight.
Though it’s unclear whether or not reconciliation is on the horizon, Raisa was in full celebration mode on Tuesday while partying in a tropical destination. “If I’m not in a bikini on my birthday then it’s not my birthday,” captioned the star, who flaunted her svelte physique in a tiny orange two-piece. She was also pictured modeling a large sunhat and a stylish crochet coord as she lounged on a couch. On her Instagram Story, she is seen hanging out in a cabana by the water and enjoying drinks with friends
