Shock Warning from Anthony Starr to Homelander Fans: ‘You’ve Got It All Wrong!
The Boys is best known as a comic book series, but Amazon Prime’s streaming adaptation of the comic book, which includes numerous revisions and additions, has helped the story become a worldwide success. And while Homelander is unquestionably the series’ biggest villain – and believe us, this means a lot, because the series is full of villains – there are still some deluded fans who idolize the Superman-gone-wrong character and his worldview, which is why the actor portraying the character, Anthony Starr, decided to react and set the record straight with the fans, explaining Homelander’s true point.
Some fans might not like to hear this, but Homelander is evil, and there is absolutely nothing redeeming about him, so supporting him in any way is wrong. He is a symbol of everything that is wrong in the series, a symbol of corrupt power and narcissism, and if you don’t believe us, Starr himself has said the same thing, basically.
In short, if you’re not fully acquainted with the character or are just getting into the series, Homelander is the main villain of The Boys. Although he is initially lauded as the best and brightest superhero in the world, it quickly turns out that he is a corrupt, power-crazy madman whose ego is as feeble as it can get. With each season, Homelander slowly takes a turn for the worse, and while it might have initially seemed like he was just a puppet controlled by the big corporations, it turns out that he is evil in his own right and that he does not need the corrupt CEOs to make him even more evil than he already is.
But, despite the fact that Homelander has done some horrible things in the series, including the destruction (literal) of many lives, there are many fans of the series who agree with him and still see him as a hero, despite the fact that the series has made it obvious that he is a horrible villain.
Shocked by this, Anthony Starr, the guy playing Homelander, has decided to react, telling the fans that they are completely missing the point when Homelander is concerned. In a recent interview for the Los Angeles Times, Starr commented on Homelander’s popularity and criticized the fans for supporting him:
“There’s a very strange thing that’s happened with the character, though he is clearly not a good guy. A lot of people have glommed onto him. There’s a weird element out there that actually kind of idolize him. I’ve seen some s— on Twitter and I’m like, ‘Wait, What? You are missing the point entirely!’”
With Starr himself saying this, there should be no debate about Homelander’s role in the series, so if you really think that what the guy is doing is right, maybe you should listen to Starr and sit down and reconsider your stances.
