Jensen Ackles, the star of The Boys, will again collaborate with Amazon. Derek Haas’ new Prime Video action-thriller series, Countdown, will feature the Supernatural star.

According to Variety, Amazon has ordered thirteen episodes for the series. The business developed Countdown as a star vehicle for Ackles, who played Soldier Boy in Prime Video’s hit series The Boys. Haas (OneChicago) created the series and acts as executive producer and showrunner. Amazon MGM Studios is producing the series alongside Chaos Machine, Ackles’ production company that has a first-look deal with the studio.

Per Countdown‘s description, the series begins “following a suspicious murder in broad daylight, which leads to LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Ackles) being recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement to investigate. But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.”

Ackles is excited about the upcoming project and his partnership with Amazon. “I had an incredible experience working with the Prime Video team on The Boys and am delighted to be able to continue that relationship on Countdown,” he said. “I simply cannot wait to partner with Derek and the rest of our Countdown family to bring this story to life.”

In addition to his role on The Boys, Ackles has been in its spinoff series, Gen V, and most recently on the successful CBS drama, Tracker. However, Countdown is his first main role on the small screen since the WB/CW series Supernatural, which ran for an unprecedented 15 seasons and ended in 2020. Ackles has also appeared in Season 3 of ABC’s Big Sky.He narrated and executive produced the Supernatural prequel series, The Winchesters.
